Spring/summer season – March 1 to August 31
Fall/winter season — September 1 to February 28
Available garden plots will be distributed on a first come basis, with people on the waiting list given the first chance to use open plots. New gardeners must complete an application and waiver form and be assigned a garden plot. Returning gardeners may renew their plots by making a donation by the beginning of the next growing season. If a donation is not received by the beginning of the season, the plot will be re-assigned to a new gardener.
2. Each community gardener must volunteer at least five hours per season on general garden upkeep, including lawn mowing, trimming, or working in the educational beds. Task lists and sign up sheets will be posted on the bulletin board of the garden shed.
3. Community gardeners will be given access to tools, seeds, and other resources. Community garden tools should be kept on site and in good working order.
4. Every gardener is responsible for the upkeep of their own garden plot. Please keep plots free of weeds, pests and diseases. Organic gardening techniques should be used at all time (no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers). If you have technical gardening questions, contact Leanne Reed for reference materials and volunteer support.
5. Water is available from rain barrels and hoses. Please use the free rain water as much as possible and help conserve water at all times.
6. Please do not take produce from other people’s plots without permission. If you have extra vegetables, please consider donating them to the food pantry at Shelby Emergency Assistance (tel 665-1942).
7. Please do not bring pets within the fenced area of the garden.
