Located on the property of University Baptist Church, the Montevallo Seed to Table community garden provides space for 25 individuals and families to grow their own fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers.
Community gardeners pay a low fee of $10 per season for a 4’ x 8’ raised bed plot, crafted out of native Alabama cedar, and filled with a rich mix of topsoil and mushroom compost. Gardeners then have access to the resources they need for success: seeds and plants, soil amendments and hand tools.
No experience is necessary! Experienced gardeners are available to provide tips and support.
Community gardeners experience many benefits:
- more access to fresh and nutritious food;
- increased physical activity and exercise;
- spiritual nourishment of spending time in nature;
- strengthened family ties from gardening together; and
- greater self-sufficiency in learning to grow and prepare their own food.
A thriving community garden also provides benefits to the whole community:
- uniting diverse members of the community;
- enhanced food security;
- improved public health;
- a stronger social network; and
- a more beautiful community.
